Ferris, population 4,000, now serves as the primary filming location for “Dutton Ranch,” the Beth and Rip spinoff that Paramount officially confirmed last week during the Golden Globes broadcast.
Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser are back on set, reprising their roles as the franchise’s most volatile couple. They’re joined by Oscar nominees Ed Harris and Annette Bening in a series that marks Taylor Sheridan’s continued expansion into his home state.

From Working Title to Official Confirmation
Paramount kept details close for months. The project operated under the code name “Rio Palo” when Ferris first announced the production in August 2025, leading to widespread confusion about which Yellowstone spinoff was actually filming in North Texas.
101 Studios later clarified that Rio Palo was never the official title. The show also cycled through “The Dutton Ranch” as a working name before Cole Hauser publicly stated that wouldn’t be the final choice either.
The January 11 Golden Globes teaser settled the matter. A brief clip showed Reilly and Hauser on horseback with a simple title card: “Dutton Ranch.”
Why Ferris Won the Location Scout
City Manager Brooks Williams announced Paramount’s selection last August. The decision came down to specific properties that offer what Williams described as “unique landscapes and elevation changes” despite sitting just 20 miles south of Dallas.
A ranch property featuring a mansion will serve as the primary residence for Beth and Rip’s 7,000-acre spread. Additional filming takes place in downtown Ferris and on the town’s outskirts.
The choice fits Sheridan’s pattern of highlighting American industries through location. Ferris built its reputation as the brick capital of the nation. The Ferris Brick Company supplied materials for streets, schools, and courthouses across the country throughout the early 20th century.
King Street Productions coordinated permits, insurance, and security measures with city officials. Local businesses have engaged with the production, and residents have received advance notices about periodic road closures.
Cast Brings Franchise Veterans and New Faces
Finn Little returns as Carter, the teen Beth and Rip took in during the original series. The official synopsis centers on the couple raising Carter while managing their ranch amid “tough times and stiff competition.”
Ed Harris plays Everett McKinney, a veterinarian and military veteran. Annette Bening takes on Beulah Jackson, described as the powerful and cunning head of a major Texas ranch. Her character’s presence suggests territorial conflicts will drive the plot.

Cameras started rolling in August 2025. Collider reported this month that the production is still filming party sequences and other scenes in the Ferris and Fort Worth areas.
Paramount initially targeted November 2025 for the premiere. Co-CEO Chris McCarthy revised that timeline during a July 2025 earnings call, shifting the release window to somewhere in 2026 without providing specifics.
The extended production schedule suggests the series won’t arrive until mid to late 2026. No trailer or official premiere date has been announced beyond the brief Golden Globes teaser.
The series will stream on Paramount+ and potentially air on Paramount Network, following the model established by the original Yellowstone and its prequels 1883 and 1923.
Sheridan’s Growing Texas Footprint
Dutton Ranch represents another step in the Fort Worth native’s expansion across North Texas. Sheridan recently acquired two large studio production facilities in Fort Worth, providing purpose-built sets for his productions.
Multiple Sheridan projects are currently filming in the region. Landman wrapped its second season with scenes shot in Dallas, Fort Worth, Jacksboro, and Springtown. The Madison, another Yellowstone spinoff starring Michelle Pfeiffer, has also used downtown Dallas locations.
The Kayce Dutton spinoff “Marshals” will premiere March 1 on CBS, making it the first Yellowstone universe series to air on broadcast television. Luke Grimes returns as Kayce in what Sheridan has described as a procedural drama.
For Ferris, the production brings immediate economic benefits and long-term visibility. Williams positioned the project as proof that the town can attract major film and television work beyond its historical role in American infrastructure.
