A 28-year-old Providence man died after his vehicle struck a parked tractor-trailer in a North Attleborough rest area early Thanksgiving morning, according to Massachusetts State Police and the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.

Carlos Chavez Martinez was pronounced dead at 2:40 a.m. on November 27, 2025, after his white Audi sedan left Interstate 95 southbound near mile marker 9.2 and collided with a commercial truck parked in a rest area.

What Happened on I-95

Troopers responded to multiple 911 calls at 2:30 a.m. reporting a crash between a passenger vehicle and tractor-trailer. Officers found Martinez’s Audi on top of a guardrail, wedged against the rear wheels of the parked truck.

The vehicle showed what investigators described as catastrophic damage. Martinez was alone in the car and unresponsive in the driver’s seat when first responders arrived. Paramedics observed obvious signs of death and declared him deceased at the scene.

The tractor-trailer driver, a 40-year-old man whose name has not been released, was uninjured. His truck was legally parked in the rest area at the time of the collision.

Investigation Into North Attleborough Crash

State Police are working to determine what caused Martinez’s Audi to veer off the southbound lanes and strike the stationary truck. The Crash Reconstruction Team is handling the investigation, but authorities have not released preliminary findings about speed, road conditions, or other potential factors.

No charges have been announced. The circumstances suggest Martinez lost control of his vehicle rather than any wrongdoing by the truck driver, though the investigation continues.

Details Still Under Review

What investigators know:

  • Martinez’s Audi exited the highway to the right before impact
  • The truck was parked in a designated rest area, off active travel lanes
  • The collision occurred during low-traffic hours on a major holiday
  • Martinez was the only person in his vehicle
  • No other vehicles were involved

What remains unclear:

  • Why the Audi left the roadway
  • Whether speed played a role in the severity of the crash
  • If weather or visibility were factors
  • When the investigation will conclude

The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office and Massachusetts State Police have not indicated when additional information might be released. Tim McGuirk, a State Police spokesperson, confirmed troopers are examining all available evidence to reconstruct the sequence of events.

Rest Area Crashes on Massachusetts Highways

Fatal accidents involving vehicles and parked trucks in rest areas, while less common than highway collisions, present unique investigation challenges. Determining why a vehicle left active lanes to strike a stationary object requires detailed analysis of the driver’s actions, vehicle condition, and roadway factors.

I-95 through North Attleborough carries significant commercial and passenger traffic between Rhode Island and points north. Rest areas serve as mandatory stopping points for truck drivers complying with federal regulations limiting consecutive driving hours.

What Comes Next

Authorities continue gathering evidence and analyzing the crash scene. Anyone with information about the incident can contact Massachusetts State Police.

State Police extended condolences to Martinez’s family in their statement about the crash. The investigation remains open with no timeline announced for its completion.

This crash occurred at approximately 2:30 a.m. on November 27, 2025, on Interstate 95 southbound near mile marker 9.2 in North Attleborough. Information is based on statements from Massachusetts State Police, the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, and multiple news reports from NBC 10, WCVB, and other regional outlets.
